High on a windswept hill, this atmospheric castle is a dark and brooding place indeed.
A little glimpse into the past. Corfe Castle resurrected to its former glory before Cromwell and his troops stormed it in 1646. The model castle and village are set in an acre of beautiful landscaped gardens; ideal for a few hours' mooching.
An abandoned cliffside quarry now a favourite haunt of climbers who come for the 'Ammonitmare', 'Mindless Optimism' and 'Bad Day'. Take in Dancing Ledge at the same time and get to it via Tom's Field in the village.
A ghost village on the Isle of Purbeck, abandoned for military use in preparations for D-Day. Wander the domestic ruins and visit the church and schoolhouse, still stocked with the day's lesson books. Worth a look, even if it's a stop off before walking down to Worbarrow Bay. Just make sure you check when the area is open, as it's owned by the Ministry of Defence.
It's signposted from the village pond, and nicely out of the way over a few fields to an unusual place, ripe for the camera. Abandoned and intriguing with a 360 degree panorama.
