Ashburton Bread Weighing and Ale Tasting Ceremony

For 701 years, they've been wearing leather breeches and sitting on a bench soaked with ale to find out if it's adulterated or not. We hear the bread and beer are in fine fettle for this year. Join the medieval procession through this Devon village on the edge of Dartmoor, usually held in July.

Tavistock Goose Fair

Taking place annually every second Wednesday in October, this fair dates back to the 12th century when farmers sold geese and drove them though the streets to the market. Nowadays its not often you will see this practice however it is still possible to buy a goose lunch at some restaurants in town on the day. There is also a fair and over 200 stalls which continue into the evening.
