Chesil Beach is a pebble beach, 18 miles long and it stretches west from Portland to West Bay. For much of its length it is separated from the mainland by an area of saline water called the Fleet Lagoon.

As featured on the BBC's Coast series (28/7/2010)

Fascinating Fossils

Fond chilhood memories of trawling slowly along the beach; the excitement at turning over each new stone that it might be THE ONE, the final resting place of some perfectly preserved prehistoric creature, lying in wait for thousands and thousands of years to be discovered. Would love to return and find some of those elusive ammonites one day.
