Barnstaple

One of north Devon’s largest towns, Barnstaple is a hive of activity all year round. The popular Pannier Market is good for a browse, while the Green Lanes shopping centre has many big high street retailers if you feel the urge to shop.

Pannier Market

We visited Barnstaple Pannier Market on a Tuesday late June and were surprised by how few stalls there were. The stallholders didn't greet customers. The market area may be busier later in the week but we didn't bother returning. The bread and cheese shop in Butchers Row very helpful and we would have loved to support them more during our stay locally. However the parking and all the road diversions around Barnstaple made us decide to avoid the town centre
